AI shopping agents

How your twin advises the AI agents that shop for people: the Ask our expert page on your own domain, and site tools agents can call directly.

More shoppers ask an AI assistant to find and buy things for them. Those agents read your product pages, but a product page can't tell them which ski suits a heavier intermediate, or which line works with which reel. Your twin can. sqrly gives agents two ways to ask it, both on your own domain. The twin runs on Shopify today, with more commerce platforms coming soon.

The "Ask our expert" page

Every store with the twin turned on has a page at /apps/sqrly/ask on its own domain — for example, yourstore.com/apps/sqrly/ask. It's the twin as a plain web page, shown inside your theme so it looks like part of your store, and nothing in your theme is changed.

  • It works without JavaScript. A simple form, a complete answer page, product links and standard add-to-cart buttons. That's what makes it readable for agents that can't run scripts — and it works just as well for people.
  • Agents can ask in one step. Opening /apps/sqrly/ask?q= followed by a question returns the answer page directly. The page tells agents so.
  • Follow-ups continue the conversation. Each answer page has a form for a follow-up question, and the twin remembers what was said.
  • Shoppers can open it too. "Open as a full page" at the bottom of the twin's panel on your storefront leads there.

Every page of your storefront also carries a short, hidden description of what the twin is, with a link to this page, so agents that read your pages find it.

Site tools

Some browsers let a page offer tools that an AI agent can call directly, instead of reading the page and clicking buttons. These site tools, part of an emerging web standard called WebMCP, are already on every Shopify storefront for the catalog, the cart and checkout. sqrly adds the tools Shopify's can't cover:

  • Ask the product expert. The agent asks the twin in natural language — which product fits a need, budget or skill level, sizing and fit, compatibility, comparisons — and gets the answer plus the recommended products, ready to add with Shopify's own cart tool. Follow-up questions continue the same conversation.
  • Apply an offer. The agent puts one of your current discount codes on the shopper's cart, so checkout applies it when the cart qualifies. It accepts only the codes you share with shoppers. See Offers from Shopify Discounts.
  • Rate an answer. The agent passes on whether the twin's advice helped — only when the shopper says so — and what was missing.

The tools appear only in browsers that support site tools, and only while the twin is turned on. Today the ChatGPT desktop app's built-in browser uses them; other assistants can as they add support. You don't need to set anything up.

Seeing agent conversations

Agent conversations appear in Conversations alongside your shoppers', with a badge for where they came from:

  • "AI agent" — an agent that used the site tools.
  • "Expert page" — a conversation on the "Ask our expert" page, often an agent shopping for a person.

Ratings from agents are marked too: a rated answer shows whether the rating came from a shopper or an AI agent, and Home reports agent ratings separately. See Conversations and results.

Turning it off

The "Ask our expert" page and the site tools follow the same switch as the twin on your storefront: turn the twin off on the app's Widget page and they're off too.
